hether over social media or in person, bullying is never okay. Unfortunately, many individuals find themselves victims of bullying. The most important thing to know as a victim of bullying is that it is not your fault and you are not alone.  Here at MTD we gathered some tips on dealing with bullying.

Find a Confidant

When being bullied, it is important to find a support team you can trust. Seek out an adult or a mentor who you are willing to share the scenario with and who can provide you with guidance. If the bullying is occurring at school, seek ought a guidance counselor or a teacher. If the bullying is occurring at dance, talk to a dance instructor. Confide in a manager if it is occurring in the workplace.

Collect the Details

Recording the events of the situation not only is a way to organize the scenario, but also writing can also be used as a coping method. If bullying is going on over social media, take screenshots to document the scenario. If the bullying continues your documentation may be needed as evidence.

Be Strong

Being bullied can often make individuals feel vulnerable and weak, however, remember that you are a strong and beautiful individual. When you are being bullied it is okay to stand up for yourself.

Don’t Give In

The main goal of many bullies is to get a reaction. Bullies often will lose interest if you don’t provide any kind of reaction. Walking away or not responding often causes the bully to move on.

Take Care of You

Depression, anxiety, and physical symptoms such as headaches and stomachaches are common side effects of being bullied. Know that these symptoms are completely normal. Don’t struggle through these symptoms alone. Seek out friends and families to help you cope. Also, continuing to exercise and taking time for relaxation will help.

Change Your Environment

While many bullying situations fizzle out overtime or with the interception of an authority figure, some situations may continue. There are many routes one may choose to pursue, but often removing yourself permanently from the environment or removing certain social media accounts resolves the issue.

Learn from The Situation

When being faced with adversity, individuals often experience a period of growth afterwards. Being bullied often forces people to adopt the skills of perseverance, resilience, and assertiveness. Additionally, it will allow you to be a better confidant for others.
