strong core is vital for dancers. The core helps to hold your center for EVERYTHING including turns, leaps, and extensions. Follow these tips to develop a strong core and improve your dancing.
1. Develop your abs without overdoing the crunches. Crunches only develop the fascia muscle (the ones on top) and not the deep core muscles needed to have a solid core.
2. Use varied options to develop your abs. You have multiple layers of muscles around your abdominal core. To develop solid abs, you need to work all of these muscles. Think of doing exercises that address your upper abs, lower abs, obliques, and transverse abs.
3. Do cardio. Cardio is important to develop your abs. Cardio burns fat, which is what hides your abs. Plus, cardio can also help you make it through your hardest dance class!
4. Most of ab definition comes from eating. If you want defined abs, it’s important to eat a healthy diet. Eat lean protein, fresh fruits and veggies, and whole grains for a true six-pack. Unfortunately, you have to stay away from junk food to have real abs! Sad but true.
