Dance Photographers You Need to Follow

Let’s face it, when we aren’t in the studio or at rehearsal we are still obsessing over all things dance! We are especially obsessed with the dance photos that fill up our instagram feed. We have collected some of our favorite photographers to help satisfy your dance obsession!

Jordan Matter @jordanmatter

Jordan Matter is perhaps the most popular dance photographer on insta! While Mr. Matter did not intend to make a career out of photography, he is no stranger to the art. He comes from a family line of photographers and directors (how cool is that?!). Today, he can be found on the streets of NYC shooting amazing photos like the ones below! Do you recognize any of the dancers pictured?

Jeri Tidwell  @jeritidwellphotography

Jeri Tidwell understands dancers because she is one! When she’s not shooting gorgeous photos full of natural light, you can find her catching a ballet class. Also, she calls Columbia, Maryland her home. So if you are ever in Baltimore or D.C. you can reach out to Jeri to have your own shot! But for now, go follow her on insta!

Rachel Neville @rachelnevillephoto

For a dance photographer, nothing says success like being a shooting for world renowned companies and top notch dancewear brands. Rachel Neville can check both those off her list as she has captured images for Boston Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Grishko. Her pieces are true works of art that capture the purity of dance!

Christian Moore @chrismoorephotos

Awesomeness alert for all dancers in the midwest!!! Christian Moore is a young photographer located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is committed to creating beautiful and affordable images for all of his clients. While we are in love with his dance photos, Christian also photographs seniors, engagements, weddings, and families! We cannot get over that sunset photo!

Dan Swinson @ballet_photographer

Dan Swinson is proof that it’s never too early to chase your passion! He has been photographing since the age of 16. While originally he was not a dance photographer, he says that he fell in love with “the athleticism, the grace, and the artistry” that is dance. We think Mr. Swinson’s images truly capture those aspects of dance!

Darian Volkova @darianvolkova

Darian Volkova is the complete freelance artist! She not only is a freelance photographer, but also a freelance dancer (dream job?!). She takes her lens to the backstage world of Russia’s most prestigious companies. Darian says that she loves photography because it allows her to show others her worldview!

Drew Brashler @dbdancephoto

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Drew Brashler takes bold pictures of many up and coming young dancers. When he is not shooting in his studio or in nature, you can find him photographing in California!

Nicola Selby  @nicolaselbyphotography

These images are going straight to our pinterest! We love UK based photographer Nicola Selby. Her images always provide us with plenty of inspiration for dance shots with our friends! Beyond insta, you can catch Nicola’s work in fine art advertisements!

John F. Cooper @johnfcooper_dance

John F. Cooper’s work can be found in publications such as Elle, Vogue, Allure, and other magazines and it is easy to see why! His pieces are stunning and capture the raw strength within all dancers. We are in love with his dance photos!

Laurent Liotardo @balletandphotos

Major talent alert! Laurent Liotardo was a dancer at the English National Ballet. He now takes photos fabulous for clients such as Capezio and Dancing Times. Beyond posed pictures, Laurent also photographs live performances to truly capture the emotion within dance.  Seriously, who wouldn’t love these photos filling their insta feed?!
